Which edge should I choose?

Though it is always best to see them in person before making a decision, here are the available edge profiles on granite, quartz, quartzite, and other stone countertops. Typical edge profiles for stone are eased, pencil, half bullnose, bullnose, beveled and Ogee. Please keep in mind that some materials may not support all edge profiles.

  • Eased Edge:  Our most popular edge, eased edges are fairly square with a gently rounded over arris. This edge gives off a clean and contemporary vibe, while being easy to clean and care for.

  • Pencil Edge:  The pencil edge has larger, rounded over arrises that are slightly more curved than the eased edge arris. This edge gives a softer, less sharp look to the stone.

  • Half Bullnose:  This is a traditional edge that has a fully rounded over top arris and a square bottom arris. This edge is good at guarding your cabinets against spills because it directs the liquid to fall straight down, rather than back onto the cabinets and drawers.

  • Bullnose:  This edge is fully rounded into a half circle. The bullnose edge gives a traditional look and excels at preventing chipping and similar damage.

  • Beveled:  The beveled edge is a sharper modern edge profile. It adds an extra face to the edge and looks great in kitchens and work spaces.

  • Ogee:  The ogee is a classic motif of architecture dating back to Roman times. Ogee edges are commonly seen in Gothic and Gothic Revival architecture, making it great for elegant settings.

Mitered and Waterfall Edge Profiles

Mitered Edge: A mitered edge is when the stone is cut at a 45 degree angle allowing two pieces to be fused together forming a 90 degree angle. This allows for a thicker edge than the standard 2cm or 3cm.

Waterfall Edge: A waterfall edge is a mitered edge that continues to the floor. Many times the veining pattern can be preserved down the waterfall edge giving a sense of movement and flow.
